The quality of sci-tech project management in Russia will reach a higher level thanks to the Master’s program implemented by three leading universities of the Urals: UrFU, SUSU, and KSU. The new network program “Sci-Tech Project Management” is implemented under the Ural Interregional Research and Educational Center for Advanced Production Technologies and Materials (UIREC).
The program focuses on modern requirements to project management in scientific and technological and production areas with the aim of developing the priority directions of UIREC and facilitating scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation. Its special feature is the involvement of industrial partners and organizations—participants of the Ural Scientific and Educational Center—in the educational process.
According to First Vice Rector for Economics and Strategic Development of UrFU Daniil Sandler, students will develop competencies of project management at different stages of the life cycle; the education will contribute to the development of managerial competencies in leaders of scientific and educational, scientific and technological, and infrastructural projects.
“There are a lot of scientific and technological projects, but not so many heroes who can bring them to a successful end,” says Daniil Sandler. – Enterprises have the personnel for this now, but for quality project management a common language is extremely important, which the chief technologist, the chief mechanic, and the chief economist can speak. This new program gives you this language. One of the objectives of the Ural Scientific and Educational Center is to bring together scientific and technological teams from different companies, and sometimes even from different industries, to work on a single project. The new Master’s program solves all these problems”.
The Master’s program “Sci-tech Project Management” takes two years and three months to complete, but does not require discontinuing work. There is an opportunity to enter one of the 15 state-funded places. Even when enrolled on a paid basis—the price is 126 thousand rubles a year—it is possible to switch to a budget-funded place in the case of good performance.
Yevgeny Gurarii, the assistant plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the Urals Federal District, notes that the launch of the new educational program is very important for the development of UIREC.
“The Master’s program “Sci-tech Project Management” is one of the important results of the UIREC under the leadership of the Plenipotentiary Envoy Vladimir Yakushev. It is an educational product developed in the interests of UIREC’s industrial partners by three universities – UrFU, SUSU, and KSU. The Presidential Envoy instructed us to achieve actual results in cooperation among the universities of the Urals. This product is a practical example of inter-university cooperation. We expect that the managers and professionals that will be taught in the program will be able to manage projects that are aimed at faster implementation of the developed technologies in a better and more efficient way”, said Yevgeny Gurarii.
The new program combines active learning, project activities and fundamental training in economic sciences. All of this will ensure the high qualification of the graduating managers.
“This is really one of the key events in the life of our center,” says Igor Manzhurov, Director for Development of UIREC. “Today’s companies have a great need for managers of scientific and technological projects. Some companies have several dozens of such projects and each of them ideally needs a separate manager. It is a very big concern for an organization to get such an expert. In these conditions the launch of the new Master’s program is really a significant event. And it is very good that it was created by three leading universities of the Urals».
