Igor Manzhurov: “UIREC Continues to Develop Its Projects”

The Center’s Director for Development spoke positively about the 2023 results

The Ural Interregional Research and Educational Center for Advanced Production Technologies and Materials was able to make serious progress in 2023. According to Igor Manzhurov, the Center’s Director for Development, in the past year, UIREC was successful in developing its projects, which are very much needed by the region.

Thus, a project on reconstructive surgery is being implemented in the Kurgan region together with the Ilizarov Center. The halotraction project is very important for young children, as it allows to correct the curvature of the spine and bring them from the state of disability to a normal condition.

“This is a very complex mathematically calculated system,” says Igor Manzhurov. “Our scientists started to apply it last year, and this year they have developed it. There is a further vision of the project’s development to move from solving children’s problems to rehabilitation of the adult population. These are such special devices that actually return to normal life people who have curvatures and other musculoskeletal system problems”.

Also, the Ilizarov Center is actively working on new implants. They are preparing unique titanium-based ultradisperse implants that have very high bactericidal properties. After the administration of such medications, the number of complications decreases dramatically. This is the world level demonstrated by the Ural scientists.

This year, the project for the development of an Arctic bus was successfully completed. This is a unique bus that has passed all the tests and has been put into production. In the future, it is planned to produce a large number of such buses. The bus is a platform that allows to safely operate machinery and organize people’s work in harsh Arctic conditions.

The project with Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Plant has also been finalized. It is about induction heating of very serious equipment, which allows reducing energy costs and decreases the cost of production.

Also important for the center is the project in the field of medicine related to UOMZ. In addition, a new project focused on geodetic instruments and the Chelyabinsk project on a reentry vehicle have been implemented. UrFU’s cooperation with Rosatom is developing – four powerful projects with very serious world-class tasks are being implemented there.

“Of course, the main line of our projects is related to industry. These are serious industrial projects: on new energy, with Roscosmos, machine-building projects. In total, the Ural Research and Educational Center has 57 projects in its portfolio today. Of these, there are 10 main projects and 47 technological ones. The UIREC is successfully developing, and all the objectives we set at the beginning of the year have been reached. We are seeing further development of these very necessary interactions between science, industry and education,” emphasized the Director of the Ural Research and Educational Center.
