World-class research and education centers must play a crucial role in enhancing Russia’s technological sovereignty. This was stated by the Chairman of the Russian Government, Mikhail Mishustin, during a meeting with Governor Yevgeny Kuivashev, where they discussed the implementation of key projects for the Sverdlovsk region.

“Last year, we allocated about 2 billion rubles to support 15 world-class research and education centers (RECs). One of these innovative platforms is located here in the Sverdlovsk region. It is very important to ensure a connection between production, industry, and science. I know that you are also actively working on creating a world-class campus,” noted the Chairman of the Russian Government.

The Governor of the Sverdlovsk region reported to the Prime Minister about the implementation of projects at the Ural Research and Educational Center and the progress in establishing a campus at Ural Federal University.

“The flagship of scientific and technological progress is the Ural Research and Educatioal Center. Today, it comprises 76 participants, including 57 enterprises, nine universities, and 10 research organizations. The focus of the Ural REC’s work is on advanced manufacturing technologies for the nuclear industry, medicine, and digital energy. We can see how the center’s effectiveness is growing: in 2021, its participants received 167 patents, while last year this number rose to around 400. For instance, technology for processing spent nuclear fuel has been developed, along with new alloys for molten salt reactors, and clinical trials for a device measuring saturation have been conducted. Undoubtedly, these successes are linked to significant government support. In 2023, over 664 million rubles have been allocated from federal and regional budgets for the implementation of technological projects,” said Yevgeny Kuivashev.
