Today, the Supervisory Board of the Ural Interregional Research and Educational Center (UIREC) held a meeting chaired by Vladimir Yakushev, the Presidential Envoy to the Ural Federal District. The board reviewed projects vying for grants.
It was decided that by the end of the year, UIREC will support 30 projects: six key initiatives (the most significant for the economic development of Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan oblasts), ten technological projects, and an additional 14 promising ventures.
“The practice of integrating university and academic science to address industrial challenges through scientific and educational centers has proven its worth. Projects implemented under the auspices of these centers are already being introduced into production. They not only contribute to achieving technological sovereignty but also aim to respond to the most pressing challenges facing our country,” emphasized Vladimir Yakushev.
Among the new projects receiving support from UIREC are the development of radio-electronic and electrical systems for unmanned aerial vehicles, high-temperature self-reinforcing coatings, innovative digital solutions to enhance data integrity and reliability in biotechnology, and technical solutions for producing cold-deformed high-strength and ultra-high-strength wire. UIREC also plans to create a family of firewall devices for industrial networks with a hardware traffic filtering module, produce ground-based unmanned technical means for the agro-industrial complex, and establish a scientific and industrial cluster in the region focused on designing and manufacturing high-speed rolling stock and urban transport.
It is worth noting that UIREC for Advanced Production Technologies and Materials has been recognized as a leader among all scientific and educational centers in the country. This recognition was announced by the council of world-class research and educational centers, led by Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government. The assigned category will enable the Ural Center to receive the maximum possible grant from the federal budget for its operational program in 2024, amounting to 249.4 million rubles.
The Ural Interregional Research and Educational Center for Advanced Production Technologies and Materials encompasses the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan oblasts. Established under the national project “Science and Universities,” the Center serves as a core for scientific and industrial cooperation, facilitating the implementation of world-class projects. It also acts as a foundation for training unique specialists, including top-tier engineering professionals.
Participants in the center include major Ural universities such as UrFU, SUSU, and KGSU, which are engaged in projects across aerospace, new materials, energy, and transportation sectors.
Among the key initiatives are new developments in the production of permanent magnets as part of a comprehensive project with Rosatom, geodetic instruments by UOMZ, separators for ore enrichment, and the creation of a firewall for industrial networks. Additionally, the center is focused on the design and development of components for advanced aviation technology and addressing aspects of induction heating for factory equipment.
