A large team of researchers from the Polytechnic Institute of Kurgan State University is working on the project. While the university initiated the project, its partners are the enterprises High Technologies, OOO, and EKsI, a Research and Production Company, OOO. The general customer is Kurganmashzavod, PAO. Kurgan State University carries out all research, development, and technological work.
The project will result in two product lines. One of them is a diamond abrasive tool: this will be a low-volume product that has already passed the research and development stages at the manufacturing facility of EKsI, a Research and Production Company, OOO. The product is mostly intended for enterprises of the aviation complex. The other product line is a solid axial cutting tool: in the future, the project will make part of the production of a monolithic axial tool which is in high demand at enterprises of mechanical engineering and metalworking.
‘The project aims to increase the efficiency of metalworking operations by improving their performance and tooling,’ says Marina Davydova, director of the Polytechnic Institute of KSU.
Projects put forward by scientists will successfully compete with their foreign counterparts and create prerequisites for increasing the market share of locally produced tools.
The scientific results obtained within the framework of this project will help reduce the costs of machine-building enterprises for the performance and tooling of metalworking operations, thereby increasing their competitiveness in Russian market and abroad.
‘The objective of this project is not “science for the sake of science”, but real products to provide enterprises with Russian-made tools with operational properties comparable to those of imported ones,’ says Andrey Mikhalev, Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metal-cutting Machines and Tools, KSU.
